Tom Ford ‘Jennifer’ Flap Over Bag Lookalikes Found!

I jokingly refer to myself as “the bag lady.” Except it’s not really a joke. I carry way too many bags. On an average evening, I return home from work (and daycare) juggling my purse, my laptop bag, Westley’s backpack and lunch bag – plus any shopping bags I’ve accumulated that day. And I need to have at least one hand free to prevent my fearless two-year-old from darting into the street. So I’ve been searching for a crossbody bag to help lighten my load and free up my hands.

The crossbody I want should be work appropriate, but casual enough for weekends. I also need a one that is roomy enough to accommodate my hoarder tendencies, but not so big that I can never find what I’m looking for.

After some window shopping and exhaustive Google searches, I finally found my brainchild brought to life…on the arm of Jennifer Aniston. Her ubiquitous Tom Ford Flap-Over Bag was exactly what I had dreamed – well, minus the $3,000 price tag. I was so frustrated because I love everything about this bag (particularly the fold-over, zippered flap) and knew I’d be hard-pressed to find a lookalike in my price range.

So I continued my search and found these similar styles:

Anya Hindmarch Maxi Zip Cross Body BagAnya Hindmarch Maxi Zip Cross Body Bag, $895
Pros: Absolutely gorgeous
Cons: Hello, this bag is $900! And at 11. x 6″, it’s on the small side

Marc by Marc Jacobs Petal To The Metal Natasha BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Petal To The Metal Natasha Bag, $458
Pros: Roomy and bird embellishments are cute
Cons: Bird embellishments also make this bag a little less work-appropriate and $500 is still more than I want to spend

kate spade cobble hill little minkaKate Spade New York Cobble Hill Little Minka Satchel, $378
Pros: High quality, versatile design and available in a variety of colors
Cons: I’m cheap and it’s too close to Christmas for me to splurge on this bag, though I might snatch it up if I spied it at an outlet store

Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q - Natasha Crossbody Flap BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q – Natasha Crossbody Flap Bag, $368
Pros: Similar to TF bag and closer to my price range
Cons: Still more than I’d like to spend and very trendy (I see this bag on women at least once or twice a day)

Emma Fox Classics Large Foldover ToteEmma Fox Classics Large Foldover Tote, $207
Pros: Looks expensive, but totally within my price range
Cons: Not wild about the “convertible” aspect of this tote/crossbody

michael kors bedford tassle shoulder bag

Michael Kors Bedford Tassel – Medium Convertible Leather Shoulder Bag, $298
Pros: Has the same style and vibe as the Tom Ford bag, but at a reasonable price point. Also love that it can be worn not the shoulder or crossbody. The tassel is also a nice touch.
Cons: Not a fan of the Michael Kors name plate on the front flap.

Fossil Preston Flap Crossbody Handbag

Fossil Preston Flap, $198
Pros: Nice looking bag, good price point, 100% leather, comes in a myriad of colors.
Cons: Again, not a fan of the “Fossil” stamped on the outside.

Vince Camuto Baily Crossbody

Vince Camuto Baily Crossbody Bag, $178
Pros: Looks similar to the Tom Ford, comes in other colors (including a black quilted style).
Con: Doesn’t look expensive.

Tory Burch Robinson Pebbled Messenger

Tory Burch Robinson Pebbled Shoulder Bag, $450
Pros: Nice quality handbag. Looks expensive.
Con: Expensive

b makowsky laurel flap over handbag

B. Makowsky Laurel Glove Leather Flap Top Crossbody Bag$158
Pros: Similar look (and it also comes in rose gold, which is a favorite of mine). The price is right too.
Con: That brown stitching has got to go.

lodis dahlia joelle hoboSo – long story short (too late), I almost settled and bought the Kate Spade bag. But the shopping gods intervened and led me to the Lodis Dahlia Joelle Hobo (sorry…no longer available). It’s the spitting image of the Tom Ford bag (down to the zippered flap and expandable gusset) for just $268!!!!!! I can’t believe my luck.

Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Cat Eyes

I’m no pro makeup artist. But there’s one beauty technique that I’ve got down pat – the elusive cat eye. It requires patience and a steady paw…but once you put in a little practice, a ferosh fe-lined eye isn’t far off.

Besides practice, high-quality/easy-to-use products are the key to this look. I used three CoverGirl products to achieve this purr-fect cat eye.  It was easy, breezy and beautiful – if I do say so myself. Here’s how I did it:

1)      Apply the silver end of CoverGirl Smokey ShadowBlast – Onyx Smoke all over your lid – from the lash line and up past the crease. Also use it to trace the inner corner of your eye to make your peepers pop.

2)      Line the top lid using CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire. At the outer corner of the eye, curve the line up slightly. Figuring out the angle of the “flick” can be kind of tricky, so here’s a tip: aim for the point where your brow ends.

3)      Apply CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire to the waterline of the lower lid.

4)      Create fierce fringe with CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara. This mascara is amazing, y’all. It features an innovative curved brush that lets you load up the volume without the clumps, even after 30 strokes!

See how simple it is? With these three CoverGirl products, you can go from “I don’t know how” to MEOW!

Wanna re-create my look? Shop the P&G eStore and get $3 off two CoverGirl products OR get a FREE Cat Eye Look (which includes LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire, Smokey ShadowBlast – Onyx Smoke, and LashBlast Volume Mascara – Very Black), when you spend $69.

And check out additional offers on CoverGirl’s Facebook page.

MAC Cosmetics Marilyn Monroe Collection

“Pure platinum Hollywood glamour. Channel the legend’s luster & sex appeal in a colour collection distinctively Marilyn. It’s everything you need to capture the MM look. Specially designed packaging features imagery from The Black Sitting.” -MAC Cosmetics

As a girl who is a huge fan of big lashes and red lipstick, I was really looking forward to the Marilyn Monroe collection that MAC Cosmetics put together. Apparently, me and every other girl who considers herself a fan of makeup! A few days after the release of the collection, everything was sold out in the two stores by me. Luckily, Daneen received some products for me to test out.

First, there was eyeshadow in How To Marry. This is a great, shimmery base shadow – I love to use it when I’m going for big lashes and heavy black eyeliner. I also had a lip liner in Beet, which was a nice creamy shade of reddish pink. I did not have any lipsticks from this collection, so I paired the Beet lip liner with the quintessential matte Russian Red lipstick.

Next, there was an eye kohl in Fascinating (bright white), and  Dazzleglass in Little Rock (sheer white with pearl). For effect, I lined my inner lids with the kohl in Fascinating, added mascara to both top and bottom lashes, and added a thick line of MAC eyeshadow in Marvel. I then used the dazzleglass in Little Rock, for a very 60’s fresh face with full lashes look. This one was hard to capture on film, as the shimmer is subtle (thank goodness, none of us need to go back to the middle school roll on glitter look) but it looks really fun in person.

Overall, this is a great collection. The pieces I got are great additions to my arsenal, and all of the shades are classic and chic. Keep up the good work, MAC!
