Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works Cooling Gel Lotion Needs A New Name

A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to my local Bath & Body Works store. I was on the hunt for a tropical-smelling body wash that wouldn't break the bank, and B&BW seemed like a good place to search. When I entered the store, I was greeted my a really nice saleswoman who asked me what I was CONTINUE READING

Laura Mercier Master Class: Makeup Bag Must-Haves in Your 30s

Every month, my girlfriends from college and I get together for dinner in the Philadelphia area. We started this tradition about two years ago, and - of course - we have a great time catching up and reminiscing!  Most of them are product-obsessed (like me), and most have been through some sort of make-up introductory when we became "of age" to wear it.  Now CONTINUE READING

No Golden Globes Means No Red Carpet

gg2 No Golden Globes Means No Red Carpet
Roll up the red carpet…the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced yesterday that the 65th Annual Golden Globes are cancelled. Instead, the winners will be revealed during a mind-numbingly boring, hour-long press conference – covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13.

gg No Golden Globes Means No Red CarpetFaced with the reality of nominees’ nonattendance and mobs of picketing writers outside of the The Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom, the HFPA had no choice but to pull the proverbial plug on the awards show. So no red carpet, swag bags, obligatory ‘kiss the award’ photo ops, or swanky after-parties this year. Which also means no E! Fashion Police recaps re-played ten times a day for a month following the ceremony.

While I applaud the actors’ solidarity with the Writers Guild of America, I’m bummed that the pomp and circumstance has been stripped away, and replaced with a clinical reading of winners’ names. I wanted to see some purty dresses and Spring makeup trends…how about you?

And you know that there are some ticked off nominees, wondering why their year was the year of the strike. I wonder if they’ll just chill out at home, pop some Paul Newman, and celebrate with close friends and family. Or maybe George Clooney will send out an Evite or post a message on his Myspace page, and everyone will head over there.

rumer willis No Golden Globes Means No Red CarpetBut you know who’s probably the pissiest about this whole mess? Miss Golden Globes 2008, herself – Rumer Willis. That girl just can’t catch a break.

All I know is that they’d better settle this nonsense by the time the Oscars roll around. I’m not playin’.

Rihanna Inspired By Charlize, Not Posh

ho01 main rihanna Rihanna Inspired By Charlize, Not Posh
Don’t lump Rihanna in with the all those celebs knocking off the ‘Pob’ (Victoria Beckham’s ubiquitous hairstyle).

af3 Rihanna Inspired By Charlize, Not PoshIn the January issue of Allure, the R&B star reveals that her edgy ‘do was actually inspired by Charlize Theron’s haircut in the action film Aeon Flux. Without getting permission from her record label, she “asked hairstylist Ursula Stephen to chop off her hair and dye it raven black in her L.A. hotel room.”

Mood Swing

moodswing Mood Swing
Are you the type of person who wears your heart on your sleeve? Now, thanks to Too Faced, you can wear your mood on your lips too. Mood Swing is a new lip gloss that changes color on your lips depending on your body heat, ph balance, and mood. The formulation starts off clear and blossoms into countless shades of pink – from cotton candy to deep fuchsia – depending on the wearer’s emotional state.

ogloss Mood SwingPersonally, I think the gimmick is kinda clever*. Nevertheless, I doubt I would ever purchase this product because I’m a control freak. Call me uptight or boring if you want to, but I don’t like surprises – and I really don’t like capricious cosmetics. But if you insist on wearing makeup with a mind of its own, I would recommend Mood Swing over Smashbox O-Gloss (which happens to be sold out online and in many Sephora stores). They’re essentially identical glosses, but with Mood Swing ($18.50 for .45 oz, versus $22 for .34 oz), you get more product for less money.

Or you could spend the same amount on a pretty pink that never changes its shade, but always looks great on you – regardless of your mood.

*Too Faced has another gimmicky gloss. FUZE Slenderize Guilt Free Lip Gloss is infused with fruit flavors and appetite curbing energy boasting ingredients found in FUZE Slenderize beverages. Supposedly, it “energizes and slenderizes.”

Face Boutique Contest Winner Writes Back

Posted on by daneen in Contest, Giveaway | Leave a comment

Yesterday, I received a lovely email from Nevin, the first-place winner of Spoiled Pretty’s Face Boutique giveaway. She’s had some time to experiment with her prizes and wanted to share her reviews with me – and with you. Here’s what she had to say:

So i’ve had some time now to try all the fabulous products that you generously sent my way via your giveaway. Here is my review…

spot less 8 Face Boutique Contest Winner Writes BackFirst, I just want to say that these products from Face Boutique came in the cutest packaging ever! I hadn’t even tried anything yet and already I was impressed. Now, wouldn’t you know that the day I receive these items, I get a huge whitehead on my face. Now normally, this isn’t something I would broadcast to all of you readers, but I’ll make an exception this time because that night I used the Spot-less Blemish Gel. It’s a clear, odorless gel that comes in a small tube. You just dab it on and it dries out the whitehead and reduces the redness. A few nights of this and my problem was solved! It actually worked!

peachy clean 300 Face Boutique Contest Winner Writes BackOn to the Peachy Clean Facial Wash. The wash comes out as a clear liquid but quickly foams up as soon as you lather it on your face. The first time I tried this, I was in love! It’s soft and smooth, does not irritate my eyes, has the most heavenly peach scent, and washes off great. Your face is left feeling incredibly clean and refreshed. For those of you who don’t like scents, don’t be afraid to purchase this one as the peach scent is very light and subtle, and at night, very calming and soothing. Definitely gets you ready for a good nights sleep.

fresh faced 60 Face Boutique Contest Winner Writes BackSo naturally after washing my face, I always moisturize. Unfortunately, I have to say that I was not impressed with the Fresh Faced Oil-Free Moisturiser. It’s a clear liquid in a tube. I immediately thought it was weird for a moisturizer to be this way, and boy was I right! After putting it on, my face did not feel moisturized at all. It felt almost sticky! I had to use my normal moisturizer to make my skin feel smooth again. I gave this a few more tries because I loved the other Face Boutique products, but it just didn’t work for me.

sweep clean 25 Face Boutique Contest Winner Writes BackLast but not least, the Sweep Clean Cloths…so, you know how sometimes you just are not in the mood to go through your nightly face cleansing ritual for whatever reason, but you know you should because sleeping with a face full of makeup is not a good thing! Well, that’s when these cloths can really come to your rescue. The cloths are already moist so all you have to do is pull one out, wipe your face clean and then throw it out. That’s it! You feel clean and refreshed in seconds.

Overall, I am very happy with the Face Boutique items and will most likely be restocking once I run out. To all of the Spoiled Pretty readers, I highly recommend you try some of these out for yourselves. To Daneen, thank you again for allowing me to try these great products!
