Rent Hair Extensions?!?! Unbeweaveable!

Warren Tricomi salons have a new rent-an-extension service. For $100, a stylist will color-select, apply, and style human hair clip in extensions. You can be Cinderella (or Rapunzel) for the night, then return the extensions the next day – so they can be sanitized for the next customer. If you decide to rock the long locks for more than 24 hours, it’s $100 per day – and if you decide to keep them, the final cost will have a deduction from the time you rented them.

Or for half the price, you could make your own extensions – and wear them as many times as you’d like. Hell, you could be Cinderella every day…never worrying about the clock striking midnight and your weave turning back into a pumpkin. Here’s how. You’ll need:

One package of wefted human hair
Basically, it’s a track of hair that can be cut into smaller strips. Be sure to buy human hair because, unlike synthetic, it can be styled with thermal tools. Human hair can also be washed with shampoo, which will extend the life of your extensions. I also recommend going to a beauty supply store to purchase the hair – as opposed to buying online. This way, you’re guaranteed to get hair that more closely matches your own hair color. If you’re confused, ask for a salesperson’s assistance.

A few packages of wig clips
These usually come in packs of 2 or more. I typically use 2-3 small wig clips per hair extension, depending on the width of the extension. My recommendation is to buy more than you think you need, because they’re pretty inexpensive and it’s always better to have more than to come up short. If you have light hair, buy wig clips that will easily blend with your hair color. If your hair is dark, you can get away with the standard black wig clips.

A spool of thread
The color should match the color of the hair.

A sewing needle

Step one: Cut the hair wefts into strips. I like to trim them in various widths, so that the end result looks more real. Here’s a good recipe:

Six to eight strips that are 2” in width
Four to six strips that are 3” in width
Four to six strips that are 4” in width
Three strips that are 6” in width
Two strips that are 8” in width

Step two: Once you’ve cut your strips, take your needle and thread and sew on the wig clips. The comb side should be facing out, and the teeth should be pointing down. A good rule of thumb: the 2, 3, and 4” strips need two wig clips – one on either end. The 6 and 8” strips need three wig clips; one on either end and one to anchor the middle.

Step three: Once you’re finished sewing, you’re done. Clip those babies in, put on your cutest outfit, and go git your Prince Charming.

So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

I recently discovered elizabethW, a brand of exquisite and original collections for bath, body, and interiors. Their Perfume Diffuser in Citrus Vervain has turned my house into a home – freshening the air with a sophisticated blend of fragrance oils and natural ingredients. After a tiring day at work, I am welcomed home by extracts of star ruby grapefruit, mandarin, and lime peel entwined with lemon scented verbena leaves.

The oil is bottled in a lovely Italian glass container, accompanied by reeds in their own linen pouch. Both are packaged in a hand-tied ribboned box – which is so darned pretty, you’ll hate to toss it out.

The Perfume Diffuser is a thoughtful housewarming gift – especially for a friend who has small children or pets and typically eschews candles.

In addition to Citrus Vervain, the Perfume Diffuser is available in Citrus Spice, Lavender, Leaves, Lilac, Magnolia, Neroli Chamomile, Rose, Sweet Tea, Tuberose, and Vetiver.

I’ve Got You Babe

While accompanying my mom on a recent trip to the Willow Grove Mall, I found myself drawn – like a moth to a flame – to the NARS counter at Bloomingdale’s.

I was beyond thrilled to have finally hunted down the elusive Galapagos Eye Shadow, which was sold out at the first four stores I had visited. Before ringing me up, the saleswoman asked if my order was complete. I said yes, but then my eyes were seduced by the beauty of Babe Lip Gloss. It took me all of 30 seconds to decide that my lips would look delicious drenched in its sheer, fruit-punch red goodness.

I’ve worn Babe every day since, and I’m enamored. Punch drunk love, I call it.

NARS is available at, Bloomingdale’s, Blue Mercury, Lord and Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Sephora.

Somebody Told Me…

This afternoon, I received an email from my girl Tess, over at . Tess told me that Troy Jensen, makeup artist to the Pussycat Dolls, had just called from the set of the music video shoot for their new single, “When I Grow Up.”

In the video, Nicole Scherzinger will be wearing Three Custom Color’s Light Brights Lipstick in Palladium. The dolls loved the shades so much that Troy requested a set of all four shades for each of them!
