L’Oreal Paris recently redesigned all of their cosmetics packaging, and their Colour Riche nail polishes now reside in sleek glass and gold containers.
I was drawn to He Red My Mind, billed as a metallic Valentine Red. This color went on thinly, and did not have the best coverage. A second coat covered the flaws in the first, but then did not dry evenly. I like the color, though, a bright red with pink undertones and a slight gold sheen.
I then put a layer of glitter over the red. I chose Electrify, from the China Glaze Capitol Colors Collection – inspired by The Hunger Games. As a fan of the books, I was really looking forward to what China Glaze would come up with to accurately represent the Districts. A quick plot point without any spoilers – there are 12 Districts in Panem, the world in which The Hunger Games take place. Each of these Districts has a specialty, like fishing, agriculture, or technology. (more…)
Bethenny Frankel is my CBFFIMH (Celebrity Best Friend Forever in My Head) – along with Kathy Griffin and Wendy Williams.
Bethenny and I were introduced back in March of 2008 when The Real Housewives of New York premiered. She quickly won me over with her unpretentious personality and quick wit, and we’ve been BFF’s (again, in my head) ever since. Bethenny and I even had our children around the same time (Bethenny gave birth to Bryn in May of 2010 and Westley arrived in August of that year). I remember even more of a kinship with Bethenny as I watched her juggle marriage and motherhood, on the first season of Bethenny Getting Married?
Now I learn that me and my gal pal have even more in common. The reality-star-turned-entrepreneur has ventured into beauty, launching her Skinnygirl Face and Body collection. (more…)
After my gorgeous Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI? manicure started looking a little jacked (after weeks of abuse), I decided to follow it up with another polish from OPI’s Holland Collection. It was a difficult choice, as OPI sent me the entire set for review AND every bottle is a beauty. I considered painting every piggy in a different polish, but decided that would look a lil’ cray cray. So after much deliberation, the finalists were I Don’t Give a Rotterdam! and I Have a Herring Problem – two shimmer-laced blues. I decided on the latter because it’s darker and reads a little more gray (gray nails are my everything!) against my skin tone.
Over the years, I’ve amassed quite a collection of nail polishes (I probably own 200+ shades) and I don’t have anything quite like I Have a Herring Problem. In the bottle, it’s kind of a green blue. But worn, it’s looks more gray. And depending on the light, it either reads more blue or more gray. And the subtle, silver micro-shimmer makes it special without venturing into disco ball territory. I wholeheartedly agree with Daneen on the OPI Holland Collection for Spring/Summer 2012. Very rarely do I see a collection and want basically all of the colors, but I was more than happy to take any colors that Daneen was willing to share. (more…)
Red lipstick used to really intimidate me. It was something I saw on the runways of New York City, Milan, and Paris; the red carpet; or on Dita Von Teese. I rarely saw anyone attempt this look in real life, which did not help my anxiety!
A few months ago, I instituted a personal beauty rule, to help overcome my fear. This rule is: on Wednesdays, we wear red lipstick. Yes, I was directly inspired by the movie Mean Girls, and their “On Wednesdays we wear pink” rule, and yes, I am totally okay with admitting that. (more…)
