A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to my local Bath & Body Works store. I was on the hunt for a tropical-smelling body wash that wouldn’t break the bank, and B&BW seemed like a good place to search. When I entered the store, I was greeted my a really nice saleswoman who asked me what I was looking for. I told her I was looking for something coconutty and she recommended their new Cool Coconut Surf Shower Gel. Typically, a bottle would set you back $12.50, but since it’s new, it was only $6. It smelled good and I almost bought it…that is, until I found a bottle of Coconut Water Chill Shower Gel in the clearance bin marked down to $2.75. I liked the scent a little better and the price couldn’t be beat. (more…)
Every month, my girlfriends from college and I get together for dinner in the Philadelphia area. We started this tradition about two years ago, and – of course – we have a great time catching up and reminiscing! Most of them are product-obsessed (like me), and most have been through some sort of make-up introductory when we became “of age” to wear it. Now that we are in our 30s, I thought it was a great time to learn more about skincare (ugh, the dreaded lines and wrinkles) and how to apply make up that works for us now.
I instantly thought of my friend, Claire Sloss, who works for Laura Mercier at Nordstrom in the King of Prussia Mall. They offer a Master Makeup Class, free of charge. There is a maximum of 15 people – we found that 12 was a great number, as there are Laura Mercier artists working with a couple of girls at one time to see what best works for them. Claire just requires a few weeks to plan the logistics – and offered with the class are refreshments and the products that you would like to purchase. The class is done in a private room so you can spread out, ask a lot of questions and have fun!
We had a fabulous time! Luis Soto was our lead artist that evening, and he selected me to be his model! I admit, I was awe-struck because he has worked with many celebrities including Cher, Cindy Lauper, and N’Sync! “What, you touched Justin Timberlake’s face?!?” Yeah, the 15-year-old in me came out!!!

One of my all-time favorite products is Dermadoctor KP Duty, a dual action body exfoliator that combines the benefits of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion. It was developed to treat chicken skin – those little red bumps that many people get on their upper arms. But, for years, I’ve been using it to exfoliate my legs pre-shave. There’s really no body exfoliator that comes close to KP Duty.
Anyway, KP Duty’s skincare counterpart is Physical Chemistry – Dermadoctor’s exfoliating facial. Again, it combines the benefits of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion into a simple-to-use, powerfully effective yet gentle scrub. You simply apply it to dry skin, rub it in with your fingertips, rinse and pat dry. That’s it.
I tried it for the first time this week and I literally asked myself why it’s taken me so long to get acquainted with this product. (more…)
I’m a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino and Pulp Fiction is one of my top 3 movies of all time (the others being The Sound of Music and The Godfather, Part II). Urban Decay is one of my top 3 beauty brands so I just about lost my mind when I heard about their limited-edition Pulp Fiction collection, which is available now.
Like me, the folks at Urban Decay are diehard Pulp Fiction fans. So to mark the twentieth anniversary of the release of the film, they decided to commemorate the occasion the UD way—with an ultra limited-edition collaboration. Their inspiration is none other than the cool (and completely badass) Mrs. Mia Wallace.*
This collection has everything you need to recreate Mia’s dark, edgy look from the film, including a 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil, Eyeshadow Palette, Revolution Lipstick, Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner and Nail Color. (more…)
What if I told you that you could turn your shower into a spa-like experience in less than 3 minutes? Well, you can with the ingenious Aromatherapy Shower Kit from Essio. The kit includes a shower head attachment device and three pods of essential oils. Here’s how it works…
You clip the attachment device on the shower head. It’s adjustable and works with lots of different kinds of shower heads. Next, you insert one of the essential oil pods into the end of the attachment device. Finally, you remove the pod’s cap and point the nozzle into the running shower water to start the flow of oil – which will start to fill your shower with fragrance. (more…)
For the past month or so, I’ve been looking (and feeling) like a straight up zombie – but for good reason. I gave birth to my second child – a daughter, Arwen – on June 5 (a month before her due date).
It’s hard enough being a mom to a preemie, but Arwen also spent her first 8 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – so I’ve been a wreck, and looking like one too.
Last week while visiting the mall, I stopped by Sephora. Really, I was just there to browse and to check out some new products. But what caught my attention – and what I ultimately left with – was an oldie but goodie. After spying myself in one of Sephora’s mirrors, I was horrified by the dark circles beneath my eyes. Sleep deprivation definitely didn’t agree with me…so I walked around the store perusing the store’s concealer options. Which brought me to the Benefit display. (more…)
When I was about 11 years old, my mom took me to see a play. I can’t remember exactly what show it was – probably because, at the time, I couldn’t see it very well. As we were driving home from the performance, my mom rattled off her favorite parts of the performance and engaged me in conversation. It was then that we both realized I needed prescription glasses. The show had, literally, been a blur for me.
My first pair of glasses were pure ugly. My dad convinced me to pick oversized tortoise frames and lenses with a brown gradient tint. Looking back, it was no coincidence that boys wouldn’t look at me twice. But seriously, even though they weren’t the best looking glasses, they completely changed my life. For the first time in years, I could see. I mean really see. My hazy window to the world was suddenly crystal clear and I started to truly blossom.
