The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them all. And no matter how much they cost – from the flimsy free ones you swipe from a hotel to the more expensive caps – they’ve always let me down. They inadvertently allow moisture in. Or the elastic band loosens, allowing strands of hair to escape the shower cap and get all soaked up. Don’t you just HATE that?
After decades of the shower (and sub par shower caps) putting a damper on my do, I didn’t think it was possible to make it an entire week without steam wrecking my blow dry/flat iron handiwork. That is, until I discovered The Perfect Shower Cap from BlowPro four years ago. Seriously, the name does not exaggerate. (more…)

Now that I have two kids – and the youngest being 6 weeks old – I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY – so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. (more…)
I’m home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers – all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don’t know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I’m channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it’s damn near impossible for me to change the station.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I caught a demonstration from a beauty brand I’d never heard of: Tatcha. Victoria Tsai, the brand’s creator, was talking about the inspiration behind the brand (ancient Geisha skincare traditions) and demonstrating some skincare products – and she had my undivided attention. And I’m not easily impressed. I was this close to ordering, but I’m sleep-deprived and ended up passing out before I got a chance to order. The next week, I was so preoccupied that I forgot about Tatcha – until they sent me an email. They offered to send me some products to sample. And after using them for the past few weeks, I am ADDICTED. No…seriously. I now have a legitimate Tatcha habit. (more…)

A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to my local Bath & Body Works store. I was on the hunt for a tropical-smelling body wash that wouldn’t break the bank, and B&BW seemed like a good place to search. When I entered the store, I was greeted my a really nice saleswoman who asked me what I was looking for. I told her I was looking for something coconutty and she recommended their new Cool Coconut Surf Shower Gel. Typically, a bottle would set you back $12.50, but since it’s new, it was only $6. It smelled good and I almost bought it…that is, until I found a bottle of Coconut Water Chill Shower Gel in the clearance bin marked down to $2.75. I liked the scent a little better and the price couldn’t be beat. (more…)
Every month, my girlfriends from college and I get together for dinner in the Philadelphia area. We started this tradition about two years ago, and – of course – we have a great time catching up and reminiscing! Most of them are product-obsessed (like me), and most have been through some sort of make-up introductory when we became “of age” to wear it. Now that we are in our 30s, I thought it was a great time to learn more about skincare (ugh, the dreaded lines and wrinkles) and how to apply make up that works for us now.
I instantly thought of my friend, Claire Sloss, who works for Laura Mercier at Nordstrom in the King of Prussia Mall. They offer a Master Makeup Class, free of charge. There is a maximum of 15 people – we found that 12 was a great number, as there are Laura Mercier artists working with a couple of girls at one time to see what best works for them. Claire just requires a few weeks to plan the logistics – and offered with the class are refreshments and the products that you would like to purchase. The class is done in a private room so you can spread out, ask a lot of questions and have fun!
We had a fabulous time! Luis Soto was our lead artist that evening, and he selected me to be his model! I admit, I was awe-struck because he has worked with many celebrities including Cher, Cindy Lauper, and N’Sync! “What, you touched Justin Timberlake’s face?!?” Yeah, the 15-year-old in me came out!!!
