By now, you’ve probably heard all of the Kimye wedding details. Kim Kardashian wore a Givenchy Haute Couture lace gown (she slipped into a bodycon Balmain dress post-ceremony) and Kanye West was outfitted in a custom Givenchy tuxedo. Not to be outdone, little North wore a dress also designed by Givenchy’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci. The couple exchanged Lorraine Schwartz wedding bands, were serenaded by John Legend, and are currently honeymooning in Ireland.

As many of you know, I am currently pregnant. Very pregnant, in fact. I am due to give birth a week from tomorrow…and I am so ready to meet my little girl.
This pregnancy has been rough. Not that my first pregnancy with my son, Westley, was easy – but this one makes that one seem like a walk in the park. I’ve had quite a few unexpected pregnancy complications and, on top of that, I’ve felt pretty unattractive these past nine months. They say when you’re carrying a girl, she “steals your beauty.” And in my case, the old wives was 100% true.
First, I grew muttonchops. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But they were pretty damned close. I’ve always had fine little hairs on the sides of my face. For years, it made me embarassed and I thought about ripping all of those baby hairs out – but then I thought about the upkeep factor and ruled it out. When the baby hairs morphed into muttonchops, I decided it was time for action. So I went to my local threading place and had those puppies waxed off.
Then came the melasma (aka ‘pregnancy mask’). Melasma is blotchy brown patches that develop on the skin due to hormonal changes. My case wasn’t as severe as some of the photos I’ve seen in Google images, but my uneven skin tone was enough to make me seriously self-conscious. There are a million products on the market right now that promise to address hyperpigmentation, but I was afraid to try something new for fear I’d break out (pregnancy also makes my skin more sensitive and reactive). So what’s a pregnant, blotchy beauty blogger to do? (more…)
Hello Spoiled Pretty readers. I am thrilled to be a contributing writer for SP! I’ve been looking for a hobby and thought “why don’t I funnel my interests to one place?” I hope that you enjoy my suggestions as we go through the journey of my new hobby together.
First and foremost – I absolutely LOVE Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics products. My first experience in one of their stores dates back 5ish years. My mother, sister and I were on our way home from a Yankees game (a tradition of ours), and we had some time to kill before getting to our train. We were on 14th Street walking away from Union Square when an adorable young man coaxed us into the shop promising us free facials and hand treatments. The scent that was pouring out of the door and into the New York City air was intoxicating. It was sweet and delicious – so we decided to indulge ourselves… (more…)
If you really want to spoil your mom this Sunday, give this gift suggestion a whirl.
Treat your mom to a gorgeous complexion for Mother’s Day this year. Gentle yet powerful, Clarisonic’s patented sonic technology gently removes the impurities traditional cleaning methods leave behind, cleansing six times better than your hands alone. In just 60 seconds, its sonic action removes impurities from pores so that creams, serums, and moisturizers are more effective. And with regular daily use you’ll notice a reduction in dry patches, oily areas, and blemishes. For this kit, Clarisonic partnered with skincare leaders Fresh, Josie Maran and Algenist to provide a complete cleansing and correcting regimen, reducing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles while improving skin tone. One of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts for Mama Spoiled Pretty is a beautiful floral bouquet. Yes, flowers can be a bit cliche…but when done correctly, they’re the perfect present. First, when purchasing flowers, it’s best to plan in advance. A store-bought bouquet with the price tag still on it is the antithesis of a thoughtful gesture. Plus, you’re giving your lovely mom work to do – because now she has to find an appropriate vase, cut the stems and arrange the flowers. And, it may be just me…but no matter how hard I arrange those flowers, I can never get them to look as good in the vase as they looked in the cellophane.
So do yourself (and your mom) a favor and order some professionally arranged flowers – and have them delivered to your mom’s door. I’ve yet to meet a woman who doesn’t get giddy from a flower delivery. Plus, the surprise factor kicks the gift up a few notches.
Right now, RueLaLa is having a ProPlants sale. For $21-49, you can send your mother these artfully arranged orchids:
One Blush Blooming Orchid, $30 (originally $49): Pictured above, this double-stem pink mini phalaenopsis orchid plant comes in a hexagonal white ceramic vase. 30+ blooms can last up to eight weeks. (more…)
For a long time, Mother’s Day was just another Hallmark holiday to me. Time to buy the obligatory bouquet and card, right? That is until I had my son, Westley. Only then did I understand what a difficult (and rewarding) job motherhood truly is. And now that Westley is 3.5-years-old and I’m 2 months shy of welcoming his little sister into the world, Mother’s Day holds even more meaning for me. So do me a favor. This Mother’s Day, I want you to spoil the mothers in your life. It’s okay if your wallet is a little light. We moms appreciate a home-cooked meal, a thoughtful email/text message and – yes – the obligatory bouquet or card. But in case you’re feeling generous this year, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Mother’s Day gift suggestions over the next 10 days or so. After years of coveting a Tory Burch handbag, I recently bit the bullet and gifted myself with this Amanda Round Crossbody Bag. Now, I’m a Tory Burch convert coveting more fabulous accessories. These key chains are so cute and would make the perfect gift for a true Tory Burch fan.
For years, I have used an oversized wide-tooth comb to detangle my notoriously impossible to detangle post-shampoo hair. The amount of hair that would get caught in the teeth was somewhat alarming. But I chalked it up to the fact that I only wash my hair once a week – so maybe the hair loss really wasn’t all that bad. Detangling with the comb also took a long time and was kind of painful.
So when I heard about The Wet Brush, I contacted the company and requested a sample for review. They gladly sent me one – and, girls, I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s changed my life.
The first time I used it (which was a month ago), I was shocked. While it looks like an ordinary hairbrush, its bristles slip and slide through hair with ease – untangling even the most matted mess. Starting at the ends, I brushed my way up and was floored that the entire detangling process took half the time it usually does. And it was completely painless. Not to mention the amount of hair left in the brush was like one-tenth the size of the hairball that my wide tooth comb used to rip out of my head. Huzzah! (more…)
As a huge fan of Laura Mercier (I swear by the foundation primer and tinted moisturizer), I was so excited to see that Gilt.com has a nice assortment of beauty products currently on sale. There’s everything from sophisticated nail polish colors and soft mineral blush to lip glaze palettes and pencil sets to create an alluring smoky eye. Oh, and don’t miss the six exclusive, curated sets. Everything is up to 65% off retail prices!
Welp, folks, it looks like Kanye finally wore Anna Wintour down and got his baby mama a coveted Vogue cover. So the rumors were true. There was buzz a few months back that Kim would cover the fashion bible, but then everyone assumed it would be a foreign Vogue – given Anna’s alleged aversion to all things Kardashian. I guess this explains why Kim went back to her natural hair color.
