Teacher Cuts Braid Because 7 Year Old Won’t Stop Playing With Her Hair!

teacher+cut+student+braid Teacher Cuts Braid Because 7 Year Old Wont Stop Playing With Her Hair!

This is a damn shame. A Milwaukee teacher cut off a 7-year-old’s braid after she absentmindedly kept playing with her hair. Um, isn’t that what 7-year-olds do…act up? If a teacher can’t handle a fidgety first grader, then she should probably look for a new line of work.

If I had a daughter and she came home from class with less hair than she went to school with, I’d be real tempted to schedule a parent/teacher “conference”…and make sure she didn’t have any hair when she showed up for work the next day.

LOFT Blog Wars & Gift Card Giveaway!

loft+sequin+tank LOFT Blog Wars & Gift Card Giveaway!Holiday time is my favorite time of the year. I love scurrying from store to store, playing Santa and getting the must-haves on everyone’s list. I’m a present-wrapping superstar; if there were levels, I’d be a third degree black belt. And the holiday specials at Starbucks (Caramel Brulee Latte, Eggnogg Latte and Peppermint Mocha are my faves!) make the season even sweeter.

But throwing together last-minute ensembles for holiday shindigs? That’s when my inner Scrooge comes out. Here’s the problem – and you can probably relate. You hate everything in your closet; it either doesn’t fit properly, or it’s not festive enough for the party’s dress code. On the other hand, there’s a recession going on and you can’t justify buying an entire outfit for one holiday get-together. Makes you wanna say “bah humbug” and just RSVP with regrets.

Luckily, LOFT is here to rescue you from holiday fashion disaster.

loft+holiday LOFT Blog Wars & Gift Card Giveaway! In case you haven’t heard, Ann Taylor Loft is now LOFT. They’ve re-named and re-branded the company, and upped the style ante. And one of the many great things about LOFT that I love is that they’ve got petites! Can I get a hallelujah, shorties?

Anyway, LOFT has some amazing pieces that you can pair with something already in your closet – to create a chic, festive outfit without breaking the bank. For example, pair this Sequin Sparkle Tank with a pair of jean or black pants and layer a blazer or cardigan on top. This Sequin Scarf is only $29.50 and will jazz up just about anything in your wardrobe. What about that go-to little black dress your friends have seen you wear countless times? Take that dress from wah-wah-wah to wow with one of LOFT’s statement necklaces. My favorite is the Clear Gem Bib Necklace with Black Chain – I can think of 10 “new” outfits I could create with this accessory alone!

To celebrate their new name and image, LOFT is having a contest called Blog Wars. Starting today at 4pm, visit LOFT’s Facebook fan page (here’s the link to the actual poll), and vote for your favorite blog (hint: your favorite blog is Spoiled Pretty). On Friday afternoon, the blogger with the most votes wins a $500 LOFT gift card. Child, you know mama loves to shop…so help me out here!

To get you motivated, I’m doing a giveaway too! Go to LOFT’s website and find a festive holiday item. Then come back here and tell me (in the comments) how you’d pair that item with something already in your closet to create a holiday party ensemble. On Friday evening, I’ll award one of the commenters with a $100 LOFT gift card!

Okay, so remember to become a Facebook Fan of LOFT…then vote for Spoiled Pretty. Tell your friends to do the same. It’s war, people…and I came to win. Help a blogger, won’t cha?

Rachel McAdams Sherlock Holmes Premiere Hairstyle

rachel+mcadams+sherlock+holmes+premiere+3 Rachel McAdams Sherlock Holmes Premiere HairstyleFor the world premiere event of the highly-anticipated Sherlock Holmes movie, Sebastian Stylist Design Team Member Thomas Dunkin styled actress Rachel McAdams‘ tresses to complement her Grecian-inspired gown for a red carpet look that radiated grace and glam. All eyes were on Sherlock’s leading lady’s asymmetrical, loosely textured side braid.

Thomas shares styling tips for recreating Rachel’s red carpet look at home:

1) Start by applying a volumizing product like Sebastian Professional Texturizer to wet hair. Blow dry in sections, and pin each section in medium and large sized Velcro rollers throughout whole head and allow to set for 5-10 minutes.
2) Allow to cool then take down rollers, and spray hair with a dry shampoo for added texture.
3) Emulsify a small dab of Sebastian Professional Microweb Fiber between palms and run through top of hair. Backcomb front section and manipulate for height and volume. Secure with pins.
4) French braid bottom half of hair starting behind left ear and pin random remaining pieces into braid for haphazard, playful positioning.
5) Finish the look with Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce for tousled movement and controlled hold.

Willow Smith’s Rihanna Hairstyle

jaden+and+willow+smith Willow Smiths Rihanna HairstyleI have issues with children sporting grown-up hairstyles. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for children expressing their individuality – but when I see toddlers and young kids with over-styled hair, I can’t help but feel that it’s the wackadoo parents expressing themselves through their offspring.

So when I saw photos of Will, Jada and their brood at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, I threw up my hands. Jaden’s untamed afro appears that it might swallow his head whole, but he’s 11 and that’s the kind of style the kids are into right now. Willow’s hair, on the other hand, is a whole nuther story.

jada+pinkett+and+willow+smith Willow Smiths Rihanna Hairstyle

I don’t care who the parents are…no 9-year-old should have a Rihanna haircut. I don’t know what Jada was thinking to let someone shave half of her baby’s head. That poor child is gonna have one hell of a time growing that mess out. You would have thought Jada would have learned something from Cassie’s tress transgressions.

What are your thoughts on minors with major hairstyles?

Jane Iredale Chocolicks Lip Glosses: Holiday Beauty Gift Guide

jane+iredale+chocoholicks Jane Iredale Chocolicks Lip Glosses: Holiday Beauty Gift GuideI’m adding the Jane Iredale Chocolicks Lip Gloss set to Spoiled Pretty’s Holiday Beauty Gift Guide – although once you buy it, I doubt you’ll be able to resist your selfish urges and actually give it away.

This collection of mini lip glosses offers any chocoholic four decadent options to satisfy her sweet tooth. And the set gets brownie points for the clever packaging.

What’s even better? These glosses are formulated with 100% natural ingredients; sunflower seed oil has antioxidant benefits and jojoba seed oil hydrates!

* Truffle: rich brown gloss tastes of double chocolate
* Chocolate Orange: shimmering brown gloss tastes like dark chocolate and zesty orange
* Strawberry Cream: glossy pink that tastes like fresh strawberries and white chocolate
* Caramel: sheer bronze gloss with buttery sweetness

The glosses’ pigments are subtle and sheer, so they’re sure to compliment any complexion. They’re on the sticky side, so if you have an aversion to tacky glosses (I happen to be an equal opportunity lipgloss lover) – this is something to note.

The Jane Iredale Chocoholicks Lip Gloss set ($44) is available at dermstore.com and drugstore.com.

Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To "Luminize" Your Face

mmwmd large Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To "Luminize" Your Face

Celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic is answering your burning beauty questions!!! Every Monday, he will answer a beauty/skin care question as part of a weekly column on Spoiled Pretty, Makeup Mondays with Mario.

Hi Mario!

What is your favorite luminizer? And how can I luminize my face?

Love, April

shimmery+cheekbones Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To "Luminize" Your FaceHey April,

I have a few favorites when it comes to luminizer. LORAC makes a really good one that comes in two shades. A pearly color for lighter skin and a golden/bronze shade for darker tones. Sometimes I will mix a bit of both together to create my own shade. This luminizer is oil-free and great for sensitive skin. You can luminize your face by mixing some of your foundation and/or moisturizer with the luminizer. I prefer to apply it on the cheekbones with my finger and blend with a damp sponge. Also use a bit on the bridge of your nose and center of lips. Try to not use powder directly on top of the luminizer and instead only on your t-zone. If you really want your face blinged-out, brush some shimmer powder over the liquid luminizer only on cheekbones and only at night.

Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with Mario!

xo,
Mario

Fang-tastic New Moon-Inspired Giveaway Sponsored by Demitasse Jewelry

demitasse Fang tastic New Moon Inspired Giveaway Sponsored by Demitasse JewelryYou’ve read all four books in the Twilight saga. Your Twilight DVD is in such heavy rotation, you fear you might wear it out and consider buying a backup. You bought advance tickets to see New Moon on opening day, then returned to the movie theater later that week to make sure you didn’t miss anything. You know the date that Eclipse hits theaters. And every time you’re in a store with one of those life-size cardboard cutouts of Robert Pattinson, you’re tempted to snatch it and make like a tree.

If any of the aforementioned statements describe you, congrats…you’re a Twihard. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about…I’m a Twihard too, and this is a safe place. In fact, this is the place – if the Cullen Crest t-shirts just aren’t your thang, and you’re looking for a more unique way to pledge your allegiance to Team Edward.
